Is your friend or daughter turning into a skeleton this Halloween?

Did you know that girls who say they are taking the anorexic journey to be more attractive really don't want to be attractive? You must know that most heterosexual teenage boys and lesbian teenage girls find anorexic bodies to be scary at best and repulsive at worst.

Anorexia is a disease that plagues overachievers who are afraid to feel their suffering. Most of them have endured a painful incident that has left them feeling out of control and secretly traumatized. Anorexia is usually NOT cured with behavioral methods which avoid the real problem and cause further damage. Everyone thinks they want to be thin but REALLY we all just wish to be loved as we are.

Who do you think is more likely to develop anorexia: a girl who is labeled "overweight" by peers or a teenage girl who is voted "most likely to succeed?" Did you know that the next door neighbor girl who is doing great in school, liked by her peers, living in an affluent home and very intelligent might be starving herself? It's time to help girls love themselves with all their strengths and weaknesses.

Contained in every starving body is a starving heart. "The Secret Language of Eating Disorders, Understanding and Curing Anorexia and Bulimia" by Peggy Claude-Pierre; Times Books, Random House, 1997 is an excellent resource by a wonderful author on curing anorexia. A lasting cure requires help as well. Visit a counselor near you who specializes in eating disorders if you are suffering.

Every problem is a ticket to something wonderful if you are willing to seek help and make a change. Be not embarrassed for eating disorders plague millions of people and help is available.
